Resilience, Perseverance, And Never Quit | Thomas Walton

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

Thomas Walton, film director, writer and producer. I am a LA based filmmaker. I am also the co-owner of Lux Angeles Studios, a Hollywood studio, we do everything from shooting for Hulu, Netflix, Lionsgate. We also have our own sales and distribution label, that I am VP at. What I want people to know about me is; I come a very diverse background, I grew up in Philly, I am a former alcoholic, now 6 years sober. I never gave up on my dreams and now I’m living them. The first movie I directed was released by Lionsgate, then from there I started working. My last two films are (They Turned us into Killers) starring Scout Taylor-Compton and Taryn Manning. And (Camp Pleasant Lake) starring Jonathan Lipnicki, Bonnie Aarons, Robert Lasardo, Andrew Divoff, Michael Pare and many others. I want people to know, if I can do it, so can you! I am a high school dropout, now I make movies for a living. I’m a very positive person, and I love to use that positive energy to inspire others.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

Resilience, perseverance, and a never quit attitude. I believe if you give yourself fully to a passion, it will become your reality. I have produced over 40 feature films, directed 3 films in the last 2 years and written over 10. Not bad for a high-school dropout. I am also co-owner of Lux Angeles Studios, and VP of Safier Entertainment.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

When I got my first studio deal with Lionsgate. It was a dream come true. I haven’t stopped working since then.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

Listening to, too many people, making too many promises, and believing that I could not achieve what I knew I was meant to do. Once I started working and people saw I backed up what I said, those negative people, became my supporters. I believe hard work, perseverance, and positive energy, pays off! I am living proof of that. It took over 15 years, but I am a working producer/director and co-owner of a studio, and I am forever grateful I never gave up on that dream.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

Neal H. Moritz – The dude is a beast of a producer and I would definitely love to collaborate with him and swing him by our movie studio.

Jordan Peele – I admire his style of filmmaking and diversity. I would love to collaborate with him and make a passion project.

Eminem – I would definitely love to chop up a studio session with him, and have him do a song on one of my films. He’s a legend.
