How I Became An Actress: Princess Mapp Shares Her Story

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

My name is Princess K. Mapp and I’m an actress being represented by DDO Agency and Zero Gravity Management, Mia Cho. I’m starring in the Emmy Award winning show, Ghostwriter as Nia Barnes. I think the shows message is universal and much needed for the climate of today, where there is unfortunately a lot of cultural differences that sometimes lead to racism or racial profiling similar to what my character experiences. The crew and cast did an amazing job creating a captivating storyline that involves mystery, suspense and fun! A full adventure along with awareness and diversity that all families can enjoy.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

Oh yes ! I have had amazing faith that has got me where I am today! I remember writing in my journal I wanted to work with Kevin Hart and bam! 2 weeks later I was on set doing just that in a commercial! So my faith opens doors and I’m able to manifest things I believe and speak! Besides I love to pray for others, you never know when someone needs a good pick me up!

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

Well I always knew I wanted to be on TV and at first I thought I wanted to be a singer but I think it hit me when I got a Sonos commercial featuring Q’Tip. Then later I got cast to play Serena Williams 2xs on 2 different commercials years apart!
I had never played tennis and took lessons for the audition. My mom is big in her faith too so she saw a shopping cart by the tennis court and immediately said it was a sign cause she just read about the dad collecting balls with a shopping cart! So as it would turn out I booked the commercial. So going to miami and meeting her made me feel so special! She was the sweetest person! After these experiences I knew this was something so wanted to do for the rest of my life!

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

Experiencing racism at a young age in elementary. I was talked about skin color and features but I learned to love myself for who I am. I didn’t let that experience define me at all. It wasn’t easy at first but when I realized these people either were uneducated or taught differently so I didn’t judge them. At first it hurt a lot but I understood who I was and by loving myself I know no one else can define me.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

Viola Favis- to learn more about the experience at Julliard because I want to go there and because she is a favorite actress of mine.
Leonardo DiCaprio- to have a conversation about his range and acting craft.
Shia LaBeouf- would love to talk about his lifestyle of growing up in the industry and advice on what to do and not to do as in this business of acting.
And of course I’d love to work with them all one day!
